Windows Shortcuts

Yesterday someone at CCS IT Training mentioned the ability to lock Windows quickly using Win+L. Somehow I had missed this shortcut so I thoughts I’d write a short post on some of the Windows shortcuts I use everyday. First of all the basics. These I learnt on my first Mac back in 1997ish and pretty much work on every computer and every operating system since

  • Ctrl+C: Copy selection to clipboard
  • Ctrl+X: Cut selection to clipboard
  • Ctrl+V: Paste clipboard
  • Ctrl+Z: Undo something
  • Ctrl+Y: Redo something
  • Ctrl+A: Select all
  • Ctrl+P: Print

But then you know those right. So here are some window management shortcuts that I couldn’t live without especially as I nearly always use two screens. These use the Windows key and the arrows

  • Win+Up: Maximise the active window
  • Win+Down: Minimise or restore active window.
  • Win+Left or Right: Dock the window to each side of the monitor or move to second screen
  • Shift+Win+Left or Right: Move the window to the monitor on the left or right.

I hope these shortcuts help and allow you to work slightly faster with windows.

Have a great day.
